INTERVIEW

1. Who are your musical inspirations & Influences?

Left of Centre LiveMy influences are pretty much everything rock, from the heaviest and lightest of old (From Sabbath & Thin Lizzy to the Eagles) to the modern artists like Alter Bridge and One Bad Son.

2. What local band other than you guys would you like people to know about?

Not a local MB band, but a regional band from Vancouver looking for a break much like ourselves… Aviator Shades. We played with them at the Pyramid when they came through Winnipeg this past fall. They are everything that’s good about the last 50 years of rock in a nutshell, and their latest EP is really underrated. Even ignoring the excellent writing on the EP, the production is higher than some mainstream stuff at the moment.

3. Gear question! What guitars, amps, drums, basses, effects do you use?

I currently have multiple basses, but my go-to for the last few years has been my Les Paul Standard. I’m running a pair active EMG P-pickups in it so its a totally/tonally different beast that what you would expect based on looks. It’s a BEAD tuned P-bass on steroids. I also have a thunderbird for the low groove and a Ibanez custom 5-er for variety. Amps-wise I have been Gallien-Krueger for a long time. Currently using the 550 Fusion head with their neo cabs. Couldn’t ask for more from an amp in my opinion… it can do it all. Vocally i have lots of mics to choose from, but my newest addition is an original 1947 Shure Monoplex. Having an old school crystal mic gives me lots of tonal options live which is always fun. It get’s me into that rockabilly/Volbeat territory.

4. If you could put together a perfect band with anyone alive or passed away,
who would be in the band? (6 players, keys, 2 guitars, bass, drums, vocals).

Oh man that’s a tough question. What I dig changes with mood, but I’ll give it a shot. Ray Manzarek (The Doors) on keys, Matthias Jabs (Scorpions) and Ian Thornley (Big Wreck) on guitars, Gord Sinclair (Tragically Hip) on bass running his set-up from 89’s Up To Here, Brent Smith (Shinedown) on vocals, and Dave Grohl pulling double duty on drums and production.

5. What song are you currently digging?

Lately I have been dusting off a few of the Foo Fighters 90’s albums, but it really varies. I think I have close to 100 GB of music on my hard drive at the moment, so the next song could be anything!

6. What is the future for the band? Any plans to record?

Just finishing recording a new EP with a little vocal work left to go. Some of the songs have already worked their way into our live show and have been going over very well. Our current plan is to use the new EP and hopefully get the interest of some connected Canadian producers to help us with higher level radio exposure.

Here are Alex Hammond’s responses (lead guitarist):

1. Who are your musical inspirations & Influences?

Left of Centre PromoMark Tremonti is who got me into the style of music I love most, modern hard rock. My influences today are Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Disturbed, Three Days Grace, Saint Asonia, etc

2. What local band other than you guys would you like people to know about?

New Renaissance. Good group of guys, great music 🙂

3. Gear question! What guitars, amps, drums, basses, effects do you use?

My guitar is a PRS Tremonti SE (I’m sure you can guess why!) It’s been my workhorse for the past 8 years, I use it for EVERYTHING. My amp is a Mesa Triple Rectifier, for effects I use a Dunlop Zakk Wylde wah, Keeley compressor, and a TC Electronic Corona chorus pedal. When I find something I like, I stick with it!

4. If you could put together a perfect band with anyone alive or passed away,
who would be in the band? (6 players, keys, 2 guitars, bass, drums, vocals).

Tough question! I would have to say the keyboardist from Rammstein, Benjamin Burnley on vocals, Mark Tremonti and Dan Donegan on guitars, Mike Wengren on drums, and Justin Chancellor on bass. That miiight turn out to be way too much going on at once but on paper it looks awesome!

5. What song are you currently digging?

Having a hard time getting Asking For It by Shinedown out of my head right now!

6. What is the future for the band? Any plans to record?

We’re recording right now actually! Just need to wrap up some vocal work on our latest project, so we will be releasing some brand new stuff in the not-too-distant future 🙂
